As a pharmacist, I see firsthand how patients often struggle to fill their prescriptions. Despite heavy advertising from drug companies, many people abandon their medications at the pharmacy counter due to high out-of-pocket costs, insurance restrictions, or being switched to cheaper alternatives. In fact, nearly one in four prescriptions never get filled, leaving nearly a billion prescriptions unfilled each year. This isn\u2019t just a financial issue\u2014it\u2019s hurting patient health. Many people don\u2019t realize that drug companies offer financial assistance programs, but even when they do, insurance rules and rising costs make it hard to access the medications they need. Doctors are also under pressure to prescribe cheaper drugs, even if they\u2019re not the best option for the patient. To fix this, drug companies, doctors, and healthcare platforms like GoodRx need to work together to lower<\/a> costs, simplify insurance rules, and make sure patients get the right medications without unnecessary delays.
